19- Cheerfulness

Cheerful people are like lights in a dark room.  They dispel the gloom which permeates our world.  Cheerfulness is appreciated by family, friends, and co-workers.  As an attitude, cheerfulness far exceeds most other character traits.  Both Christians and non-Christians possess this trait in varying degrees; but the inward joy of the believer enhances his cheerfulness.  We cannot depend upon people, possessions, or circumstances to keep us cheerful.  Instead, we must learn to function as the astronauts.  When they go into outer space or stride across the face of the moon, they must carry oxygen with them and provide their own atmosphere for survival.  As we learn to live in a changing world, function in hostile environment, and grapple with life-threatening obstacles, we must carry out our own atmosphere with us for survival.

  1. “Attitude is everything” my parents would tell me or “Your actions are louder than your words.” Cheerfulness to me is like an attitude that tells people would you are because there are many things that can make you cheerful. For me, cheerfulness comes from music and food. I need to make God my first priority for cheerfulness. The word does make me happy but I need to find a way to do it more.

Cheerfulness can really determine your perspective. If you choose to view everything cheerfully, you will be a much happier person and be less stressed. You will have more energy and others will follow your example, and we have no excuse n

God wants a cheerful giver. Everything we do should be to the glory of God, but He does not want us to do anything with a dark attitude. That doesn’t mean we can only do the things that make us cheerful (obese people still need to work out and drug addicts still need to get off drugs) but we need to have a positive mindset in everyone we do. When we serve, when others annoy us, when we are down on ourselves, cheerfulness will bring glory to God and reward us with a happy outlook on life.

I think Cheerfulness is a trait hard to comeby sometimes. I know that I can stress my self out so much that it’s almost impossible for me to have an atmosphere of cheerfulness. Although being around people that have this attitude always seem to lift my spirits and find some how to relieve the stress that I have. I struggle with this alot and sometimes seem to find it hard to find Things to be cheerful about but I know God wants us to have this attribute because it gives us a positive outlook on even the toughest of situations that we may endure through.

it’s so hard for me to be cheerful. a lot of the time, i feel like it’s just easier to complain and be apathetic. i’ve noticed that when i have a negative attitude, i get easily stressed and irritated when things don’t turn out the way i want them to. i think being cheerful is about finding the silver lining and being able to react joyfully in difficult situations. i think if nonbelievers see that we are cheerful, they are gonna ask themselves why we’re so happy and what we have that they’re lacking.

  6. kyle stocks pd.2 ⋅

Cheerfulness attracts people. When people see you they should be able to see Jesus and when one is cheerful they can. People wonder why that person is different and so joyful. They begin to ask questions and this can lead them to christ. Cheerfulnes creates sparks that become a flame that grows and grows until it sparks more fires. It all starts to rabbit trail, all you need is that one eye catching characteristic that draws people in. Thats what cheerfulness is.

  7. colt ford p.3 ⋅

Cheerfulness is always greatly welcomed. If someone around you is cheerful, everyone one is in a better mood. If you are cheerful and happy, others want to be around you because you resinate happyness, making life more enjoyable.

  8. Darby Switzer pd. 2 ⋅

Cheerfulness is really hard to have sometimes. It is an amazing trait that only some people truly posses. When I’m having a hard day sometimes someone just coming up to me and smiling and giving me a hug or telling me that Jesus loves me, can work wonders. It doesn’t matter if they know what’s wrong, The fact that they are showing me love would cheer me up instantly. Cheerfulness is a really good way to show God’s love to unbelievers. Yes, being a Christian is by no means easy, but if people see that even in hard times us Christians have something to rejoice about, they will be able to see God’s love. Cheerfulness also draws people to you. So if you are blessed enough to have this trait, use it to draw people to you and show God’s love to them unconditionally.

I think that we all need to be cheerful as christians. It is important to keep a positive attitude in everything. We should not be negative because that attitude can bring other people down.

  10. Rachel Kortman pd. 3 ⋅

Being cheerful when things are going good is easy, but the real test comes when you have to be cheerful when times get tough. It’s hard to be happy and cheerful when you lose a game or someone you know dies, but through those tough times we remember that God is in control and He wants us to praise Him at all times through all trials. I struggled with being cheerful this soccer season with all the crap that went down, so its an area i need to work on.

  11. Adam Holly ⋅

Cheerfulness is very hard to have in a genuine sense. This goes along with several other traits I think. In our day and age, we are constantly asking for more “stuff” and we find it hard to be cheerful with the stuff we do have. I have been having a hard time being cheerful lately. I hate being fake even more. Cheerfulness is hard.

  12. Emily Boat ⋅

Actions can speak louder then word and as christ followers we should do all things for the glory of him in cheerfulness. we should we cheerful because we had God with us always.

  13. Nathanael mains period 3 ⋅

Cheerfulness is a great trait to have. Cheerful people can bring light to anyone’s day. Cheerfulness is a big part in Christians to life to show others we are happy

  14. Esteban Flores P3 ⋅

Being cheerful is hard. When things arent going the way that we wish it would go we must be cheerful. God tests us he puts obsticles in front of us and sees if we will make a left or a right. We have to be cheerful when the whole world had turned their backs on you because God hasnt.

  15. Aubrey Pond pd 3 ⋅

Cheerful is contagious. When someone is cheerful, they make me cheerful too. I don’t think we can be cheerful all the time but there is a time for cheerfulness and God can even bring cheer out of crappy times. I think it not only feels good to be cheerful but it really helps others too so we should keep our eyes on God and he will supply us for us and for those around us.

  16. Steven meythaler 3rd ⋅

God gives us a plethora of opportunities to be happy and cheerful but we only focus on the sad and not perfect. Jesus gave his life for us so we shouldn’t be terrible but we should be cheerful and full of happiness we can’t let everything get us down but we should try to spread our joy to others.

  17. robert voinescu period 2 ⋅

Cheerfulness is important in anyone’s life. At time it seems hard to be cheerful, but those are the times that test us and toughen us up. Cheerfulness isn’t something your born with, it’s something you gain; the ability to find the smallest spec of goodness in a myriad of your own apathy, anger, frustrations, etc.

  18. Chastity Cannon pd5 ⋅

Cheerfulnees is a very important trait in a Christian. It shows their happiness in Christ. During our troubles, it can be hard to express our cheer to other people. But through God, He gives us true Cheerfulness.

  19. Logan Cameron pd 6 ⋅

Cheerfulness is a key part in our walk with Christ, our cheerfulness should not be determined by others actions it should come from within us, a quote I strive to live by is by a man named Thomas Monson who said, “The principle of living greatly is to be able to face trouble with courage, and disappointment with cheerfulness, and trial with humility. That to me is what I think cheerfulness is, when we can be happy in the worst of situations.

  20. Ashley G ⋅

Cheerfulness is something that can be kinda like an on/off trait. Outward cheerfulness is something that happens when your in a good mood. Inside cheerfulness, or a believers cheerfulness is something that should always be there. It’s knowing that you are saved and with Jesus that should bring this.

  21. Victoria Z prd.3 ⋅

God desires for us to be cheerful. This is because when we are cheerful we can have a lighter heart and life can be more enjoyable. When you are cheerful everything is better. It is so hard to be cheerful sometimes. Like when bad stuff just keeps happening, but when you remain cheerful you have hope and gain a more positive perspective on things. But to be cheerful I think you need to give your anxiety and troubles to God. Because if you think about it some of the reasons we arent cheerful is because we worry. Being cheerful is a very important attribute of a deciple.

  22. Kara Morrow pd. 6 ⋅

Cheerfulness is a choice you must make every day. It is so much easier to smile about stuff than frown and complain. Smiles are contagious but so are bad attitudes! Wouldn’t you rather spread an attitute of contentment and joy than one of unthankfulness and unhappiness?
Christian fellowship is so important to cheerfulness. I look forward to going to church every week and it brings me joy because I know that I am surronding myself with good influences. It does my heart good to spend time with other believers.

  23. David Lahtinen P3. ⋅

I believe that cheerfulness is important because it lets people know that Christianity is AWESOME and not all stuck up like many people think

  24. Sarah Johnson pd. 2 ⋅

It sounds terrible but this year I have really been struggling with cheerfulness. I have had a grim outlook on the future and the amount of stress this year has created is taking a toll on my sunny disposition. Hearing ‘be happy’ from friends and family can get monotonous and unimportant, but it is eye opening reading in proverbs that God requests cheer and denounces negative thoughts. Going forward I will have to rely fully on God’s strength to help through my negativity, remembering that He is infinitely wise and knows that bad thoughts will get me no where.

  25. Roman off Pd.2 ⋅

Just as what the subtitles said, that everyone has cheerfulness. Cheerfulness keeps us happy, it makes our days great, and you get that nice feeling to spread your happiness to others(that’s how I feel), but I also think being Cheerfulness is challenging. It’s very difficult to stay cheerful, in high school, with the things we have to deal with. For me, I look forward to chapel every week to just drop everything, when God just cheers me up, I forget what I was mad about and move on. God’s Cheerfulness motivates us

  26. Dani B pr. 3 ⋅

I try to be cheerful as much as I can in a concoius way and its kind of hard expeially in a faith way, but i think when were cheerful we exude Christ in a joyful spirit way and you just feel much better! when im down and stuff I dont really want to go out and hang out with friends an have opportunties to be a Christian example but when im cheerful i like skip down walmart telling people Jesus loves them an praying is so much more fun when your cheery i think your mind is more open to new ideas He can put in your head, being cheerful really makes mu Christian life so much better

  27. Brittany Zimmerman pd.2 ⋅

Cheerfulness is essential to a believer’s life because its important to stay positive during trials. We were promised trials in this life and we were given two options: we can give up and abandon God or we can trust and rely on Him. Cheerfulness plays into this because attitude changes everything. You can be going through something terrible but if you trust God and be cheerful, it won’t control your life.

  28. Gabby Marrama Pd. 3 ⋅

When life isn’t going close to how you expected everything to lay out it is extremely easy to have the urge to just be depressed and walk around with a “life sucks” tattoo across your forehead, however that is God’s test. As hard as it sounds we are to be cheerful a good majority of the time considering God is always on our side, and He knows exactly the reason for every hardship in our life. This is not to mean we shouldn’t feel emotion, but we shouldn’t stoop so low that we’ve given up all hope on everything. We are called to show the goodness of God and how He will never let us make it through the hard days alone.

  29. Josh Small period 2 ⋅

Cheerfulness is an important part in Christianity. As Christians we should always be happy because we are saved. It seems like that I’m saved cheerfulness dies after a few weeks. Jesus is a light in this world. Being cheerful is showing Jesus’ light in this dark world for people who do not know christ.

  30. I think it’s significant that true cheerfulness comes from the Lord. I think that alot of Christians mistake the fake cheerfulness that people display when they get new toy, or get drunk, or get high for the real thing. It causes alot of confusion to think that these things are giving people cheerfulness. In many ways, this is what is wrong with modern Christianity. Christians often seek cheerfulness in things, instead of in God.

  31. Destiny William ⋅

Cheerfulness, is a quality all people are able to express. It is saying you are enjoying life or it is just your natural character to be overly happy!!

  32. Audra Pettit PD6 ⋅

Cheerfulness is a great trait to have, and it is also one that is hard to find. I think people are attracted to cheerful people, and so as believers we need to be full of joy. People should have a conversation with us and even if Christ isn’t talked about, the other person will notice your attitude and they will want to have the joy that you have and you will bring people to Christ.

  33. Devin Winston p.6 ⋅

i don’t ever remember Jesus being cheerful 24/7. For some reason i see him as some chill dude that would gather people on the beach for a bon fire, or a drum circle. Now I have been with some people that no matter what are always cheerful and always bright no matter the circumstances. I think its great in a world of trolls that there is a nice person out of the million. This is definitely a gift from God, cause in all honesty everyone i know is not like this for the most part.

  34. Will gades pd 2 ⋅

We need to be cheerful to one another because happiness inspires peace. There are times for uncheerfullness like Jesus did that time in the church, but there are just as many or more times for us to be cheerful in this world.

  35. matthew delos ⋅

    matt delos p 1
many people thing happiness comes from many different things in life like money and success. the only way to truly be happy is when we have the love of jesus inside of us and we truy know and love the lord.

  36. Chase Brant pd. 6 ⋅

cheerfulness to me is another way that we can witness to others. When we’re cheerful we can show Jesus through us to others.

  37. Sam Fox period 5 ⋅

Having cheerfulness means being in good spirits or being merry. Being cheerful can make other people around you cheerful. Although people who are too cheerful can be annoying.

  38. Rachel Bergsten ⋅

I think positivity leads to cheerfulness, if you choose to be positive about every situation then you can be happy and I like Proverbs 15: 13-17.

  39. Luke Choi period 5 ⋅

Cheerfulness is important to have as a Christian. It helps us be an example to other religious groups and they might be more enthusiastic to listen.

  40. Rachel La Mascus ⋅

Without cheerfulness life would lose allot of what makes it worth living. Attitude is not everything God is but he can help you with the right attitude we have hope in God thus we are cheerful. We know everything is ok and that he is under control and he has our life so we spread our cheerfulness and use it in all aspects of our lives.

  41. Courtney Eubank pd 1 ⋅

The first thing that came to mind with this was a quote I read once from Taylor swift (I know don’t judge me yet) and it said “no matter what happens in life be good to people. Being good to people is a wonderful legacy to leave behind”. I find myself repeating that over and over again in my head. Being cheerful is just taking those moments you would normally pass by someone and saying hi instead. Or asking how a cheer competition went to someone you never talk to. Being good to people. It’s not a dramatic change, it’s a moment by moment choice to be good to people.

  42. Ally Dunn ⋅

cheerfullness is a trait God calls us to be but i think its something we all struggle with especailly when life gets hard. a lot of times it easier to be negative and to complain a lot but as christians we need to work on being cheerful and joyful even when it may be hard,

  43. Alexis Patterson ⋅

Cheerfullness is an amazing thing whether it be in doing something you’re asked to do or just going about your day. It especially comes into play with service. God would rather someone not do anything that to do an act with a hard and non cheerful heart. It says in Proverbs that “a joyful heart makes a cheerful face” which means that your cheerfullness or lack of is a reflection of what is in your heart.

  44. Jared DeLaPiedra - Period 5 ⋅

Cheerfulness is important because during our trials we need to stay positive and not stray off our path towards heaven. Also, cheerful people are the life of the party and are able to attract more people towards God. They can also keep a positive mood when it comes to teaching the Bible or trying to show that you are a Christian.

  45. Hannah LaBarbera Period 4 ⋅

Cheerfulness shouldn’t come from a circumstance or possessions, cheerfulness should be a choice every day because God has chosen us out of the darkness. Our circumstances and possessions will only make us happy for a short time, same with our disappointments and failures, we will only be dissatisfied for a short time. Some of the most cheerful people I’ve ever met have the least. Cheerfulness is contagious, it is much more inviting to be cheerful than constant negativity. We need to consider everything a joy. This is especially hard when one door after another is closed, but until God opens another, praise Him in the hall.

  46. Kelsie W. Period 1 ⋅

Cheerfulness is an important trait for everyone. It allows you to be more open minded and keep a positive, constant mood. Christians can be a good examples for others by being genuinely cheerful and happy.

  47. Bradlee p 5 ⋅

God wants us to be cheerful. If we are trusting in Him and letting Him guide our lives, we can be cheerful in the thought that God is in control, and we have nothing to worry about. we have been set free and God wants us to live life cheerfully! and rejoice and find joy in every situation! it will become natural to be cheerful when we focus our hearts and minds on God.

  48. Caroline Munro:) second hour ⋅

Only about 10% of life is made up with what happens to you, the other 90% is what you make of it. Cheerful people help others to see this and realize that even though things might suck at times, you can rise above it and usually things will get better. God gives us so much and helps us even when we are not aware of it. Cheerful people help me to remember this and to be thankful for the many things that I have.

  49. Austin Sanich p 3 ⋅

I believe that the cheerfulness of a person can show Gods love to another person. Everybody wants to be around someone who is cheerful. Cheerfulness is also contagious because its hard to be not cheerful in the presence of someone who is cheerful.

  50. Kaitlyn Samudio p.2 ⋅

Cheerfulness is important trait to have because it allows us to stay positive even during tough times. God promises us that we will have trials so we shouldn’t give up and not try but we should rely on God and do it cheerfully. And being cheerful can be really contagious to others.

  51. Philip H. Pd 5 ⋅

Cheerfulness is vital in a relationship with God because without it we would be to stubborn to even listen to what He has to say to us. Cheerfulness not only can affect our walk with Christ but also the people around us as well. There is always going to be hard times in our lives but we either choose to be cheerful or not cheerful It’s up to us!

  52. Jacqueline Horwood pd 5 ⋅

Cheerfulness is really easy to have when things are going well its when you’re having a hard time and going through trials when our cheerfulness is really tested. When you draw close to God it’s much easier to be cheerful because even when you are going through hard time you can be cheerful that God is in control and has a plan so you don’t have to worry.

  53. rikki nunley ⋅

being cheerful is an emotion that can go on and off. you can be a cheerful person but still have sadness behind that cheerfulness. just having Christ in our lives can make a person cheerful alone. cheerful Christians need to spread the word of God and he happy about it. we should have joy in our lives knowing he saved us from our sins

  54. Nikki Milroy pd. 2 ⋅

I think this goes along really well with what Lizzy talked about the other day in chaple about filling ourselves. We fill ourselves with temporary joy and cheerfulness which can a lot of the time be fake. Jonah tried to fill himself with joy when he had that plant for shade but that did not last long at all. True cheerfulness comes from inward joy that God places in us, not wordly things.

  55. THE Gabe Rosania ⋅

The world needs cheerful people. they are always there to help you out when you are down. Since i play sports I find it very helpful when I have cheerful teammates, they can always pick me up or make me feel good when I do good. Cheerfulness is a grreat trait to have for you can keep many people’s moral up. Cheerfulness is also important to have when you are trying to either read the Bible or just your walk with Jesus. For when you are cheerful you can pay more attention to Jesus, and be able to give Him more attention and just listen better

  56. Daniella Hendricks period 1 ⋅

Cheerfulness is a way we can show that Christianity is a good thing to nonbelievers. When a nonbeliever sees a Christian that is unhappy, they directly relate that to the lack of fulfillment by belief. I’m not saying we need to be cheerful all the time, but it is a good way to share the word of God. Cheerfulness can also benefit those around us and cheer them up.

  57. Jacob Rhodes ⋅

Cheerfulness is a big part of our relationship with Christ. If we are not cheerful about the plans God has for us, we will not be able to see all the amazing things he has in store for us. The things God has for us can be hard sometimes, but if we trust Him, it will b so much greater in the end.

  58. Amy Stauffer period 2 ⋅

We live in a messed up world. We need only to look to the news to see that. We intake so much negativity that cheerfulness seems insignificant and out of reach. However, when we run across cheerfulness, sincere cheerfulness, even in the craziness of life, we pause and are refreshed. There is so much going on and we don’t know how we will get through it. This is where God’s joy comes in. God’s joy makes it possible to be cheerful in difficult situations. It is a sweet aroma.

  59. Xavier Juarez pd 6 ⋅

To me I can personally say its easy being cheerful only because we’re humans and we have our faults and we have emotions. God doesn’t expect us to be cheerful all the but the least we can do is try to not fall apart, give up and just down rigt port ourselves, when there are others who have it just as bad or even worse than what we do and thy continue to be cheerful. So in those times when you are feeling down you should try an do what Lizzy said in chapel on Wednesday try and go to him in those times giving you peace and the ultimately lifting that weight off of you an you become cheerful in knowing He’s there for you every moment of your day.

  60. cody ⋅

In my opinion all christians need to be cheerful. I know we cant be cheerful all the time but we need to be as much as we can. That way people can tell theres something diffrrent in us and talk to us about it. That way it gives us an opportunity to tell them about Jesus. Thats why cheerfulness is important to us as christians.

  61. Danielle Walworth per. 6 ⋅

It is important to live a cheerful life because this a way to show your joy through Christ for others to see. If someone is constantly down they are not portraying they’re joy through Christ.

  62. Andrew Polican, per 5 ⋅

Lately it’s been pretty evident to me that you can’t really achieve a change within yourself with out God. In the same way, it seems like we can’t really be cheerful without God. We might be able to will ourselves into changing our emotions on occasion, but not consistently, and not genuinely. We can only change the way we are by asking God to do it for us and by spending time talking to God.

  63. peter martin ⋅

cheerfulness, the art of being cheerful. being cheerful comes from having joy and you dont have joy unless you are comfortable. the best kkind of comfort is being comfortable with yourself and who you are, that way you dont feel the need to worry about what others think about you and have the constant fear of not being included. once you drop that worrying then you actually have time to enjoy the things around you and actually see how great things can be. once you have the joy of that then youll be cheerful and optimistic and people will notice and wonder how you can be so cheerful. the truth to that is that before you can be comfortable in yourself you have to be trusting to God to take care of your worries and without worries comes joy and after joy comes cheer. the greatest and lingest lasting cheerfulness always starts from God

  64. Jacob Sanchez period 6 ⋅

Cheerfulness plays a role in our reach to bring more people to Christ. Cheerfulness is a way to set an example for people that are new in their faith and are having doubts. It would show them that our relationship with God is an amazing thing and that the longer we stay in our faith the better it gets even though there are trails and tests.
